About this event
Synopsis The Seagull depicts a complex web of unrequited love, artistic ambition, failed dreams, and generational conflict. Arkadina, a famous actress, arrives at the family estate with her lover Trigorin, a famous novelist. Her playwright son Konstantin, who has dreams to change the world of theatre, is eager to share his new play and gain her approval. But when his play is performed, it is met with confusion from most, and disdain from his mother. At the same time, Trigorin becomes the object of affection for Nina, an aspiring actress who Konstantin pines for. In a series of subtle encounters and growing crises, the characters all struggle with their insecurities and unfulfilled desires, discovering the painful gap between dreams and reality. Content Information This play includes references to depression, suicide, child bereavement, and substance abuse. The production also features realistic firearm props & loud sound effects (such as gunshots), as well as theatrical cigarettes (which produce only water vapor).
Any audience member who needs to excuse themselves from the performance will be free to do so.
Run Time The performance will run approximately 2 hours, with an intermission.
Ticketing Policies Once "general admission" tickets sell out, you may use the Waitlist ticket option to request a seat. If tickets become available (either in advance, or on the day of the performance), they will be released to patrons with waitlist reservations. Though not guaranteed, tickets will likely be available for those on the waitlist, so please come to the theater on the day of the performance you wish to attend . When you arrive, be sure to tell the house manager that you're on the waitlist!
Online Reservations will close approximately 2 hours before each performance. After that time, patrons must come to the theatre in person to reserve tickets or add their name to the waitlist.
The house will open 15-30 minutes before the performance. Please arrive at the theater at least 10 minutes before the show to ensure seating availability. At 5 minutes before curtain, all reservations will be released and empty seats will be offered to patrons on the waitlist.
Late Seating Patrons arriving after the performance's start time may (or may not) be admitted at the discretion of the house manager. Please arrive early, as noted above.
Venue & Parking The Little Theatre is located on the south side of Riley Hall, closest to Institute Road. The entrance (illuminated by a purple neon sign) is on the west side of the building, facing Daniels Hall. When you arrive, please check in with the house manager.
Free guest parking is available in the WPI West Street Lot or in the Park Avenue Garage. Since the building is on a steep hill, patrons with accessibility challenges may prefer to get dropped off in the driveway between Riley Hall & Daniels Hall.
