COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Girl Scouts now offer a new cookie flavor called Exploremores (rocky road ice cream-inspired) for local buyers during the cookie season that began Dec.20; booth sales will start Jan.24 with cookies priced at $6 a box.  MetroWest Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bruno Mars will perform at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro on Saturday, Sept. 5 as part of his Romantic Tour. Supporting acts include Anderson .Paak (as DJ Pee Wee) and British singer Raye, and fans can join the presale on his website starting Jan. 14 (12 p.m. ET).  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham High School Drama Co. is showing Disney’s Frozen at the school until Jan. 17. The production began with a dress rehearsal on Jan. 8 (featuring local students in key roles) that brings the well-known story to life.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Framingham State University (FSU) has partnered with UMass Chan Medical School to launch the BaccMD Program that gives qualified students provisional acceptance and yearlong mentoring with clinical exposure; eligible sophomores can apply to join a cohort of between 15 and 25, clearing a path to medical education.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MassWildlife is collecting public input on proposals that may allow hunting on Sundays and relax crossbow restrictions. Comments are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 6, and listening sessions from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3 accept feedback online + by mail.  MetroWest Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data from Realtor.com shows that in October, Middlesex County home sales reached a median of $775,000, up 3.7% from September & single-family homes rose 2.5% to $820,000 while condo prices fell to $620,000.  MetroWest Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The MIAA released the winter power rankings Friday for basketball and ice hockey, setting postseason brackets on Feb. 21. MetroWest and Milford teams show promise, with Millis topping Division 4 girls basketball + Algonquin leading girls hockey after strong starts.  MetroWest Daily News
  • On Jan. 9, Braintree edged Natick 79-76 in a Bay State Conference game, handing the Redhawks their first loss despite Kayla Dunlap’s 31 points. Braintree’s strong offensive rebounding fueled the win in Natick.  MetroWest Daily News
