EDUCATION NEWS

  • New MA education regulations now let colleges propose pilot programs that lower credit requirements so students can earn bachelor’s degrees in three years. Gov. Healey said the measure will make higher education more affordable and boost innovation in meeting workforce needs.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Ninety-two schools statewide received grants for Credit for Life fairs that teach high school students financial skills, including Framingham High School (awarded $3,700) while 25 schools serving low- to moderate-income students got extra funds. The grants totaling $383,420 were announced on Feb. 11.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Framingham residents will spring-forward their clocks on Sunday, Mar. 8 at 2 a.m. as daylight saving time begins, bringing later sunsets and one less hour of sleep.  MetroWest Daily News
  • FEMA advised homeowners to safely remove accumulated snow from roofs as recent storms have raised concerns over roof collapse in the area. Residents should contact a qualified inspector if they notice warning signs (like sagging ceilings or unusual noises) and use proper tools during snow removal.  MetroWest Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • 21-year-old Ansel Haugsjaa from Framingham will compete with the United States luge team at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina this weekend. His participation marks a proud moment for our community as the games begin in Italy.  The Frame
  • Team USA plays Latvia in its Olympic opener today at 3:10 p.m. ET in Milan. The team includes three Massachusetts-connected players and coach Mike Sullivan from Marshfield (broadcast on NBC Sports and Peacock), marking the return of NHL players to the Winter Olympics after 12 years.  MetroWest Daily News
  • On Feb. 10, local fans gathered at Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland to cheer Southborough native Korey Dropkin + the USA team as they won silver in a mixed doubles match at the Winter Olympics.  MetroWest Daily News
