COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Framingham Farmers Market reopens on June 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Centre Common on Edgell Road + Oak Street, offering local produce weekly until early October. Vendor applications are open for farmers, food producers and artisans.  MetroWest Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lorretta Holloway was one of nine honorees at the Black History Month Honors on Feb. 17 for her work developing anti-racist curricula at Framingham State. She said the event — celebrating Black resilience and community care — offered a warm space during challenging times.  The Gatepost
  • This February marks 100 years of Black History Month as local educators, student groups, and community staff celebrate Black culture and contributions. Campus events and inclusive dialogues will highlight the legacy and inspire future community engagement.  The Gatepost

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laila Jenkins, president of Framingham State’s Black Student Union, is working to expand club collaborations and strengthen ties on campus during Black History Month. She aims to create a welcoming space for students to celebrate Black culture and build lasting connections.  The Gatepost
  • In 2020, Framingham State renamed North Residence Hall to Miles Bibb Hall to honor Mary Miles Bibb, the first African American graduate and teacher. The Board of Trustees and student leaders approved the change — reflecting the university's ongoing commitment to diversity and its historical legacy.  The Gatepost
  • FSU faculty and administrators gathered at the Center for Inclusive Excellence on Feb. 18 (their panel discussed how MLK's teachings shaped careers, identities, and community service).   • Angel De Leon has been chosen as the Black Student Union vice president and says Black history shows the strength of community when facing adversity. She believes BSU creates a space for students to feel connected and empowered through shared heritage.  The Gatepost
  • Framingham State University was named a top institution for women by Newsweek, ranking 5th in the state and 69th nationally. University leaders said the ranking highlights its long-standing commitment to women's education and equal opportunities on campus.  The Gatepost

SPORTS NEWS

  • Astronaut Suni Williams, a Needham native who once ran the Boston Marathon on a treadmill in space, will run the race on April 20 from Hopkinton to Boston. She will receive the Patriots award + recognizing her perseverance + during the event.  MetroWest Daily News
  • The Framingham State Rams defeated the MCLA Trailblazers 94-35 on Feb. 14, boosting their conference record to 10-2 and overall record to 14-9. Senior Kiara Cerruti and sophomore Jacquelin Schels sparked an early lead — building momentum ahead of postseason play.  The Gatepost
  • Framingham pickleball players are advised to update their gear this season with specialized tennis shoes, breathable mesh shirts, and tailored athletic bottoms for improved performance - options available online and at local sports stores.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham State coaches, including head coach Donald Morris Jr., emphasized during Black History Month the need for more Black leadership in coaching at local athletic facilities to inspire student-athletes.
