CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 100 people attended a reception for the Tarot of the Inca art show at Morse Institute Library in Natick on Feb. 21. Framingham artist Samela St. Pierre presented 40 watercolor and ink paintings and offered homemade Peruvian dishes to celebrate Latin American history.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham celebrates its 325th anniversary with a photography exhibit at the Memorial Building that opened March 6 and showcases 35 photos by 23 photographers. A reception is set for March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. (the exhibit runs through May).  MetroWest Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Massachusetts unemployment claims fell from 5,693 to 4,861 for the week ending Feb. 28, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (data released March 6).  MetroWest Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Massachusetts black bears begin leaving their dens between February and April, though some stay active when food is abundant. Expert Dave Wattles advises homeowners — remove bird feeders to prevent bears from getting too comfortable around homes.  MetroWest Daily News

  • MA lawmakers filed a bill on Feb. 19 to designate the American lobster as the official crustacean of the commonwealth + the proposal honors its role in our coastal economy and is backed by the Massachusetts Lobstermen's Association.  MetroWest Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data show Middlesex County’s median home sale price was $750,000 in December, down from November's $755,000. Single-family homes sold for a median of $797,000—decreasing 1.6%—while condominium prices rose 6.8% over the same period.  MetroWest Daily News

  • A TikTok video reveals the final four matchups for the MIAA hockey semifinal games set for today and March 8 — local fans can prepare for a weekend of competitive play.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham's Christopher McGinty was honored as Sports Field Manager of the Year by the New England Sports Field Management Association during the New England Regional Turfgrass Conference on March 4 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
