CULTURE NEWS

  • The PBS documentary 'Henry David Thoreau' will air at 9 p.m. on March 30 and March 31, featuring voices by Jeff Goldblum and George Clooney. Holliston brothers Erik & Christopher Ewers directed the film that explores Thoreau’s life and its moral lessons for today.  MetroWest Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Massachusetts gas prices rose for the second week, reaching $3.69 per gallon on Monday as the average increased from $3.49. Analysts expect prices to climb another 20 to 30 cents as traders factor in Middle East tensions and seasonal driving demand.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Framingham's Callahan Center launched its new 'Back to School—Without the Homework' lecture series for seniors on March 24, offering engaging talks on topics from science to poetry, funded by Friends of Callahan and Framingham Cultural Council, that will run through September.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Framingham’s municipal aggregation program saved over $2.5 million in electricity costs by offering lower rates through three energy options, including the Framingham Standard Green option saving about 20% over Basic Service. Data through February shows strong participation and officials expect savings to continue through July.  City of Framingham

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Food Safety and Inspection Service warned March 23 that a White Oak Pastures 16-ounce ground beef product (EST 34729) may contain metal and should be discarded if found. The product is stocked in stores including Mom's Organic Markets in Massachusetts, though no injuries were reported.  MetroWest Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • A local poll opens today for the Fans Preseason Boys Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, featuring 27 top candidates from 16 schools including early champions from Hopedale, Hopkinton and Westborough. Voting remains open until noon Wednesday, Apr. 1.  MetroWest Daily News
