  • City officials invited Framingham residents to share their ideas via an online survey to plan a new community center in the old Marian High School building on Union Avenue; the survey—launched on April 1—will guide the planning committee's next steps.  MetroWest Daily News

  • A Hanson man was sentenced on April 9th in Boston federal court to one year and one day in prison, three years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine, and a ban on owning pit bulls after pleading guilty to keeping and using mistreated dogs for organized dogfighting.  MetroWest Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Initial jobless claims in Massachusetts increased last week from 4,276 to 4,834 for the week ending April 5, the Labor Department said—US unemployment claims also rose to 223,000 over the same period.  MetroWest Daily News

  • This week, concerns have been raised about the planned closure of Framingham Union Hospital’s special care nursery and the City Council will discuss seven projects recommended for funding through the Community Preservation Act.
