EDUCATION NEWS

  • Framingham Public Schools will have spring break from April 20-24, aligning with Patriots' Day on April 20. Other districts in Massachusetts may use adjusted vacation dates.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham officials are choosing between renovating Hemenway (a 1961 school with limits) and building a new south side school on the Bethany Road site to expand elementary programs. The project team will review plans through December and bring the proposal to City Council in August.  MetroWest Daily News

FINANCE NEWS

  • A FinanceBuzz report from April 14 showed Massachusetts residents had a 23.5% effective tax rate (combining federal and state taxes), ranking second among U.S. states due to high median incomes pushing many into higher federal brackets.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Framingham’s Women, Children, and Families Commission launched a citywide survey to gather input from residents—especially women and families—on setting fiscal priorities for the upcoming year. The anonymous survey remains open until Sunday, July 5 at 11:59 p.m.  City of Framingham
  • Gov. Maura Healey announced new measures on April 14 to limit social media use by setting defaults of a two-hour daily cap for under-18s + disabling addictive features and notifications during school hours. Her proposals complemented a House bill for under-14s and were filed with the supplemental budget.  MetroWest Daily News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • On April 20, nine local venues along the Boston Marathon route will serve food for race spectators; Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers in Framingham will host a free Marathonfest with live music, and Swingers Back Bay in Boston will offer an all-day watch party with games + mini golf.  MetroWest Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data for January shows Middlesex County’s median home sale price dropped from $750,000 in December to $740,000, a 1.3% decline. The report noted that single-family homes and condominiums also saw lower prices compared to last January.  MetroWest Daily News
