- ➤ The Framingham Fire Department will hold a groundbreaking for a new firefighter memorial on May 4 at Fire Headquarters (10 Loring Drive); the 6-foot bronze statue and engraved granite wall will honor fallen firefighters while supporters can donate via the memorial foundation. - ➤ The 23rd Annual Sharon Timlin Memorial Event will be held on June 13 at Hopkinton High School and features a 5K race, children's races and a family fun day to raise money for ALS research. Guests of honor include Mike and Dawn Timlin. MetroWest Daily News

- ➤ Legislators in three New England states including Massachusetts are reviewing rules for grocery store self checkout systems that would require a manual checkout for every two self checkouts and limit self checkouts to eight at once. In Massachusetts, Senator Paul R. Feeney’s (S.237) bill is under review in a Senate committee. MetroWest Daily News
