COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Disaster Day Training Drill took place at MassBay Community College on May 7, 2026, with over 200 participants simulating a car bomb explosion at a music festival (practicing emergency response).  MetroWest Daily News
  • Families can join a free Kids Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the parking lot on Dr. Harvey Cushing Way and Dudley Road where young riders will build confidence with obstacle courses and volunteer help (helmets are required).  MetroWest Daily News

  • Ace Hardware launched its Hometown Days event today, featuring summer deals on grills, outdoor furniture and lawn care essentials starting with a Mother’s Day sale from May 8 to 10 and continuing through Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Framingham High School Drama Company held a dress rehearsal for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on May 7. The production will play today and on Sunday evening at the school theater.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Mazmanian Gallery hosted three senior capstone exhibitions for FSU art students between April 14 and May 6, featuring illustration, graphic design, and studio art.   • Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer will launch their 'Everyone's a Star!' tour on May 29 with shows across North America including a Boston stop on June 5 at TD Garden; tickets start at $35 (prices vary by venue).  MetroWest Daily News
  • Framingham State Fashion Club is hosting its annual Spring Fashion show today at the school gym, with models and designers completing a dress rehearsal at 4 p.m. before a two-hour showcase begins at 6:30 p.m. They adjusted quickly to last-minute changes (keeping the event lively).  The Gatepost

  • Kevin Swope has been named the new city historian, replacing Frederic Wallace — who stepped down last Dec. 31. A longtime volunteer with the Framingham History Center and co-author of four local history books, he was sworn in by Mayor Sisitisky.  MetroWest Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts say deer ticks spread Lyme disease and lone star ticks have been linked to red meat allergies so locals should check tick spots (behind ears, hairline, and knees) after outdoor activities.  MetroWest Daily News

  • Local high school baseball players are competing for the Daily News Fans Midseason Baseball Player of the Year Award. Votes remain open until noon Friday, May 15 — the poll spotlights top talent this spring.  MetroWest Daily News
