  • The Massachusetts State Lottery launched a new $50 scratch ticket called $25,000,000 Mega Money—featuring three $25 million prizes and an 82% overall payout rate. The ticket also offers second chance drawings for additional cash prizes and is now available at lottery retailers.  MetroWest Daily News
  • The Brass Tap Craft Beer Bar, a Florida-based chain, will open at Nobscot Village in Framingham to mark its New England debut. The mixed-use development includes 158 apartments and 10,000 square feet of retail space — the site of the former Nobscot Plaza that was demolished in 2022.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Justina Miles — 22 and the first deaf Black woman to perform ASL at a Super Bowl halftime show — will be the keynote speaker at The Learning Center for the Deaf’s graduation on June 6 in Framingham. She also won a silver medal at the 2021 Summer Deaflympics as a track athlete.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld a two-year suspension of Hopkinton veterinarian Margo Roman for giving human health advice in a March 16 email that recommended an ozone generator for COVID-19; the court ruled her actions were beyond her licensed scope and supported the state Board of Veterinary Medicine’s decision.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Governor Healey announced a hiring freeze in the executive branch that will begin on May 27 to protect taxpayer dollars amid a tightening budget outlook and anticipated federal funding cuts. The freeze excludes public safety officers & direct care providers and follows flat non-surtax revenue collections.  MetroWest Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA’s FSIS issued a public health alert on May 13 for ready-to-eat chicken and bacon wrap products made on May 2 with a sell-by date of May 7 due to a Listeria risk in products sold in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. Consumers are advised to discard any frozen items from the affected batches—no illnesses have been reported.  MetroWest Daily News
