- ➤ Framingham officials are calling for local volunteers to help place about 5,000 flags on veterans' graves across seven cemeteries, with 2,500 flags to be placed at Edgell Grove Cemetery tomorrow at 9 a.m.—if the weather is bad, the meeting will move to May 24. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ The Framingham Firefighter Memorial Foundation announced a new effort for residents to honor fallen firefighters by offering custom-engraved bricks at the Fire Department Headquarters on 10 Loring Drive. Donors can contribute $150 for a brick or any amount by check or Venmo—each donation helping to fund a memorial with a bronze statue and granite wall that will mark the bravery of our firefighters. - ➤ On May 15, City Council members began reviewing the annual municipal budget and local residents protested a recent ICE apprehension — a historic home tour will take place this weekend as part of the Framingham History Center’s house tour. The Frame
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Massachusetts law prohibits taking any fruit or nuts from a neighbor’s property without permission and classifies this act as a crime, with penalties of up to six months in jail or a fine of $500. The law also sets a minimum punishment of five days in jail or a $5 fine when the offense occurs on Sunday, in disguise or at night—while foraging wild edible plants in public areas remains allowed. - ➤ MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham named George Rizzuto as interim CEO after John Whitlock resigned in April for a financial role—he had retired in 2019 as chief executive at a Tenet hospital in Florida.
