  • Carbone’s Restaurant in Hopkinton, a family-run Italian fixture for 93 years, will close on June 27 as its owners retire — the town will buy the property for $1.8 million to build a water pump station.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Zippity Do Dog at 160 Speen St. is now owned by Alan and Paponake MacIntosh, who took over on May 12 to keep its classic hot dogs while adding custom blend burgers. They plan a renovation for the 20-year-old food truck soon and may expand later.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Framingham Public Schools students will showcase climate solutions at the Cooler Communities Fair on Saturday, May 30, at Walsh Middle School. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to noon and features Explorers and SAGE projects (pollinator pods, food waste reduction, upcycling) plus light refreshments.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Metrowest Mediation Services in Natick will offer a 30-hour virtual mediation training session (via Zoom) on July 13, 15, 17, 20 and 22. The five-day course costs $895 per person and provides group rates, financial support and professional development credits for qualifying applicants.  MetroWest Daily News

  • Eighteen high school athletes from local games on May 20 delivered milestone plays with home runs, no-hitters, and crucial hits on the field. Their standout performances in softball, baseball, lacrosse & tennis contributed to important wins across teams.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Wayland senior Finn Bell broke the state record for career kills by registering 1,429 kills during a five-set win over Newton North on Thursday night, with his team finishing 18-2 ahead of the MIAA tournament where pairings will be announced Tuesday at 11 a.m.  MetroWest Daily News
