EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Massachusetts board of education voted Tuesday to replace the MCAS exam with a temporary graduation requirement that will make high school students complete specific coursework in English language arts, math and science through grade 10 for the class of 2026, with U.S. history added in 2027. The new rules will remain in place until a permanent standard is approved after a report is released by July 2026 — though a few board members voiced concerns about the limited framework. - ➤ Today the Framingham Fire Department announced plans to build a memorial at 10 Loring Drive that will honor fallen firefighters with a 6 and a half foot bronze statue and a brick patio where residents can sponsor inscribed bricks for a $150 tax deductible donation. The memorial will be finished in 2026 with a Flag Day dedication ceremony — the bricks let people have a lasting tribute — and annual services will be held. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ The Massachusetts RMV announced its new license plates to celebrate 250 Years of Independence will be available for order online starting May 22, 2025; the design features a blue background with '1776' surrounded by 13 stars and the phrase 250 Years of Independence.
