COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eagle Scout candidate Jenna Yazdani partnered with local nonprofit SMILE Mass to build a storage shed for adaptive equipment that helps families with disabilities. She has raised $1,394 of her $2,500 goal to support the project being built in Sudbury—one of the largest of its kind in New England.  Framingham Source

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 3:45 a.m. on June 21st, a structure fire broke out at 203 Bishop Drive and Framingham Fire crews and police evacuated nearby residents—one firefighter was taken to MetroWest Medical Center for heat exhaustion as the fire, caused by oily rags, was quickly contained.  City of Framingham

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Framingham History Center will host a quilting and history event on June 28-29 at Village Hall on the Common — 2 Oak St. The event will offer quilting workshops, lectures on sewing circles and the American Revolution, and an 18th-century dance with guest speakers including Anna Tucker, Barbara Graceffa and Valaria Poitier.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sonia Sousa Aguiar, a MassBay Community College graduate from Norton who arrived from the Azores in 2012, earned her associate degree in liberal arts with a human services concentration on May 29th, 2025—she will start studying world languages at Framingham State University this fall.  Framingham Source
  • Attorney General Andrea Campbell supports the Study Act, a bill that would ban cell phones in public schools from start to finish—including lunch and passing periods—except for emergencies or student disabilities. The law would also restrict social media use by requiring age checks and time limits, following trends already seen in local schools.  MetroWest Daily News

  • The City of Framingham is accepting applications for two volunteer spots on the South Middlesex Regional Vocational School Committee (at Keefe Technical High School) for a three-year term, with a deadline of July 9 at 11:59 p.m. (Applicants must be Framingham residents who submit a resume and cover letter.)  City of Framingham

HEALTH NEWS

  • Framingham officials closed Lake Waushakum Beach to swimming Tuesday, June 24 because water tests showed elevated E. coli levels that may cause illness + further testing is scheduled for today to check if the water is safe.  City of Framingham

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Daily News Girls Athlete of the Year poll features top candidates from Framingham and nearby communities who excel in sports such as basketball, track, and soccer.
