  • Framingham Farmers Market will take place Thursday, July 10 with 102 vendor spaces assigned while 8 remain open, and Techcycle Solutions is back for a one-week recycling drive for old devices (food trucks will serve savory and sweet treats starting at noon).  Framingham Source
  • On July 8, 2025, United Way’s Gus the Grocery Bus mobile food pantry brought hot meals to 120 lower-income households at Countryside Village in Marlborough. The service prepared stuffed pepper casserole and corn from the Pearl Street Cupboard and Cafe in Framingham—also offering Starbucks sandwiches and children’s books.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Senate advanced a bill on Tuesday that will ban cell phones in public school classrooms from the first bell to the last, allowing exceptions (for students with disabilities, emergencies and other specific situations) and requiring districts to enforce school policies by the start of the 2026-27 school year. Senate leaders expect a full Senate vote by the end of the month though the proposal still awaits House review.  MetroWest Daily News
  • MassBay Community College and Framingham High School are hosting their third summer automotive technology boot camp to train 25 rising juniors and seniors in hands-on auto repair skills. The three-week workshop offers a $1,500 stipend and an opportunity to intern with McGovern Automotive Group—helping build a strong local workforce pipeline.  Framingham Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Framingham Board of Licensing Commissioners penalized four restaurants after a December 2024 sting showed they served alcohol to minors. Three restaurants—The 4's Sports Pub, Bawarchi Biryani, and AOI Japanese Restaurant—received one-day license suspensions in abeyance for six months while Los Pinos Mexican Grill—a second-time offender—got a one-day suspension and another day held in abeyance for a year.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik, who oversaw the investigation into Karen Read’s case and testified in both trials, was reassigned on July 6 to a temporary role in the Division of Standards and Training—this move follows weeks after Read’s acquittal and comes as applications open for his former position in the Norfolk County State Police Detective Unit.   MetroWest Daily News
  • City officials in Framingham seek volunteers to join the Community Development Committee that advises on housing and development needs and holds public hearings. The committee has vacancies with terms until June 30 for 2026, 2027, and 2028, and applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 20—current members may reapply though reappointment is not guaranteed.  MetroWest Daily News

  • Defending champ Matthew Naumec from Framingham CC shot a score of 4 less than par on Monday to tie for the lead at the 117th Massachusetts Amateur Championship at GreatHorse in Hampden — he will tee off at 8:41 a.m. today as stroke play ends and the top 32 players move to match play on Wednesday.  MetroWest Daily News
