  • The Framingham Disability Commission will host a free film screening and discussion on disability awareness at the main library (49 Lexington Street) on July 21 at 6 p.m. and the event will show Out of My Mind (1 hour 45 minutes) with guest speakers, a talk, and a tribute to the 35th anniversary of the ADA.  City of Framingham
  • Nancy Fliesler, communications lead for Energize Framingham, was honored at the Commonwealth Heroines celebration at the State House last month for her work reporting on local climate action—nominated by Representative Jack Patrick Lewis, she has produced a monthly newsletter covering initiatives like geothermal projects and tree planting. Fliesler expressed gratitude for the recognition and credited her long career in science writing for advancing community efforts.  Framingham Source

  • At a meeting on July 15, Urban Edge presented plans to transform Shoppers World— a 120-acre property— into a mixed-use live-work-play center with housing, office, and retail space. The firm plans to test local retailer interest and will seek zoning changes to start the redevelopment.  The Frame

CRIME NEWS

  • The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office reported that it received 59 complaints in June from people claiming to be officers and one resident lost more than $1,700. The office warned residents that no law enforcement official will demand payment using cryptocurrency, gift cards or wire transfers.  MetroWest Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weston Drama Workshop launches its 63rd season with six youth shows at Regis College starting today until July 26. Young actors from grade 5 to age 23 have been rehearsing since early June and will present two productions by a younger ensemble and four by an older group—showcasing community talent.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell and 19 other state attorneys general filed a lawsuit on July 16th in Boston federal court against FEMA and Kristi Noem to stop the termination of the BRIC program— a plan that funds upgrades to protect communities before disasters strike.  MetroWest Daily News
  • MassDEP and local fire departments set rules for open burning in Massachusetts—bonfires are allowed only from January 15 to May 1 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. while cooking fires are allowed any time if safety guidelines are followed.  MetroWest Daily News
  • The City of Framingham is accepting applications for three volunteer positions on the Historical Commission to plan for preserving local cultural resources and enforce the demolition delay ordinance—two seats run through June 30, 2028 and one through June 30, 2026; the deadline to apply is July 31 at 11:59 p.m. with no resume required.  City of Framingham
