COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Framingham is accepting applications until September 10 for its second annual Find Your People Fair—an event that will be held at Historic Nevins Hall in the Memorial Building on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is designed to help local adults connect with clubs, organizations, and volunteer opportunities.  City of Framingham
  • Team Framingham will hold its 3.25-mile Fun Run and Walk at Bowditch Field Complex at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14—runners will follow a course through Cushing Park and finish with a lap on the field as part of Framingham’s 325th anniversary celebrations and support for local charities.  MetroWest Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released in June showed that Massachusetts workers earned an average hourly pay of $42.00, the highest in New England, while Washington+D.C. led the nation at $54.21 and Massachusetts now ranks third after falling from second in May. The report also showed that residents worked an average of 33.4 hours per week.  MetroWest Daily News

  • Framingham first responders—police, fire, university police, MEMA, Brewster EMS, and State Police—completed a two-day active shooter hostile event response training at Framingham State University on July 23.  MetroWest Daily News
  • On July 22, City Council officials met to review downtown plans that include a new regional justice center at the Danforth Building and a parking garage if property negotiations over 200 Concord Street succeed—officials also updated renovation plans for the Memorial Building and for 188 Concord Street, with signed designs and work expected to start soon.  The Frame

  • MetroWest Medical Center appointed Greg McFarland as its new CEO, succeeding John Whitlock who resigned in April. McFarland, formerly chief operating officer at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, brings extensive leadership experience & a commitment to quality care as the hospital tackles staffing issues and service challenges.  MetroWest Daily News
