COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Framingham Fest is set for Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Centre Common as part of the 325th anniversary celebrations—local nonprofits, government agencies, vendors, and performers can apply by Sept. 15 with fees of $50 for for-profit booths and $100 for food vendors, and a rain date is set for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  MetroWest Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Hopkinton couple, Ronaldo Solano and his wife Adriana, were sentenced to federal prison for defrauding workers' compensation carriers by underreporting payroll and misusing COVID-19 relief funds to buy a luxury home — Ronaldo received a one-year prison term with house arrest after his July 28 sentencing while Adriana was given time served as they face over $2.2 million in restitution.  MetroWest Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The fluffernutter sandwich, made with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, originated in early 1900s Massachusetts when Emma and Amory Curtis (great-great-great-grandchildren of Paul Revere) popularized the treat while Archibald Query created Marshmallow Fluff (using his original recipe) that Durkee-Mower later named the fluffernutter in the 1960s.  MetroWest Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The water at Waushakum and Learned Pond beaches was closed on July 29 after tests found high E. coli levels — a bacteria that can cause stomach illness — and city officials said they will test the water further before reopening the beaches.  City of Framingham
