CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Today, the FBI Boston Division warned New Englanders that scam calls from people pretending to be law enforcement are rising—scammers use urgent tones to threaten arrest and demand payments using prepaid cards or cryptocurrency, so victims should hang up and report the calls immediately. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MassDOT broke ground on a $99 million project to replace the Route 27 bridge over Route 9 in Natick on July 28, with plans to improve safety, mobility and traffic flow for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. The project — featuring a modified diverging diamond interchange, separated bridges and traffic calming measures — will be completed in summer 2030 after staged construction phases. - ➤ State Police dedicated a bronze memorial on Sunday, July 27 at their Framingham headquarters to honor Frankie, the police dog who lost his life during an arrest in Fitchburg three years ago. The nine-year veteran is remembered with a life-size statue – marking the first line-of-duty death for a state police canine. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ Framingham’s Community Preservation Committee voted on July 28 to send a special funding request for an accessible dock at Waushakum Pond—City Planning Director Sarkis Sarkisian said an extra $75,000 is requested after spending $30,000 on designs and permits, with a public hearing set for August 11 and work planned to start in winter so the dock can be ready by spring.
