CULTURE NEWS

  • Mezzo-soprano Fanny Lora will sing 'Through My Eyes: Sounds of the Americas' at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept 12 at the Morse Institute Library in Natick—featuring works by women composers from Colombia, Argentina and Cuba and supported by the Natick Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council.   • Terror Con will bring horror icons like Linda Blair and Cassandra Peterson to the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on Sept. 6 and 7 — the event will offer photo ops and panels for cult film fans.   • Ten Massachusetts communities have been named among the 50 safest and richest U.S. cities by GOBankingRates, with Lexington placed second for its high household income, strong home values, and low crime rates—seven towns are from Middlesex County and three from Norfolk County.   • Financial adviser Bill Bengen updated his retirement rule from 4% to 4.7%—the change reflects a broader portfolio mix and stronger stock performance that may affect Massachusetts retirees as the state led in migrating retirees last year.   • On August 22, MetroWest Medical Center announced that Framingham Union Hospital will shift its nursery to a Level IB facility that provides respiratory support for babies born at 35 weeks and over—nurses are encouraged by community input that led Tenet to change its plan—and the new setup will keep advanced care available for local families.  The Frame
