  • A new Girl Scout cookie called Exploremores—flavored with chocolate, marshmallow, and almond like rocky road ice cream—will be sold in Massachusetts next cookie season from January through April. The cookie will be available online and at local booths while funds support Girl Scout programs.  MetroWest Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Market Basket fired CEO Arthur T. Demoulas after mediation on Sept. 3 failed to resolve a family feud over a planned work stoppage— the board voted unanimously on Sept. 9 in Delaware to remove him. Demoulas remains focused on the company's employees amid ongoing internal conflict.  MetroWest Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Sept. 9, officials said drought conditions worsened as regions such as the western, Central, and Northeast areas now face significant drought while the southeast sees mild drought. Residents in Framingham are urged to save water by reducing indoor use and fixing leaks - steps that help manage the drought.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in District 2 will cast ballots in a preliminary election on Sept. 16 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for one School Committee seat—only the top two finishers will move on to the city election on Nov. 4.  MetroWest Daily News
  • On Tuesday, Framingham leaders reviewed costs showing the city spent about $105,000 hosting part of the Boston Marathon while the Boston Athletic Association paid $82,600. Councilor George King said if the BAA does not raise its funding—so taxpayers do not cover the gap—the town may bar the race from its streets.  The Frame
  • Mayor Charlie Sisitsky will host a District 1 community meeting on September 24 at the Christa McAuliffe Library branch — running from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. — with school and city council members and representatives from public works set to listen to residents’ concerns.  City of Framingham
  • Jared and Laurie Berezin from Maynard began protesting an ICE detention center in Burlington after learning of its existence, and the group Bearing Witness @ ICE meets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to support immigrant rights—reports of harsh conditions at the facility, including a high schooler’s detention, have raised local concerns.  MetroWest Daily News

  • eGenesis in Cambridge received FDA clearance on September 8 to start clinical trials using its new pig kidney transplant method to treat patients with chronic kidney disease. The trial follows earlier successes where patients stopped dialysis & may help ease the organ shortage in the coming months.  MetroWest Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Registration for the Visa Presale Draw for FIFA World Cup tickets began on Sept 10 and will end on Sept 19 on the FIFA website — winners will be contacted on Sept 29 to purchase tickets starting Oct 1. Gillette Stadium will host seven matches, including group and quarterfinal games, in 2026.  MetroWest Daily News
  • On Tuesday, September 9, high school athletes from local teams set strong numbers in volleyball, soccer, cross country, and golf that helped secure wins for their squads. Framingham's boys soccer team won 1-0 when Kenny Correa scored with 20 seconds left—other standout performances included a Hopedale volleyball player with 39 assists and leading efforts in cross country and golf.  MetroWest Daily News
