- ➤ The Metrowest Symphony Orchestra is launching its first Youth Concerto Competition for players under 18 who will not have celebrated their 18th birthday by March 31, 2026. Live auditions are on Oct. 25 at the Dwight Performing Arts Center at Framingham State University—contestants must perform a memorized piece of up to 15 minutes and the winner will perform with the orchestra in March 2026 and win $400. - ➤ Framingham State University will receive a $2 million donation from retired professor Thomas Eames and his wife Joan—this gift will create an endowed fund for the College of STEM that will provide about $100,000 a year and lead to renaming Hemenway Laboratories in their honor. - ➤ Framingham State welcomes new and returning students this fall with support from academic, diversity, and health resources including CASA, CIE, the Counseling Center, and the Health and Wellness Center — faculty, Residence Life, and student organizations will also guide involvement in campus events and fall sports scheduled at Maple Street Fields. - ➤ MassWildlife advises hikers to check property rules before using trails because hunting is underway on many public lands; Canadian goose and black bear hunts started on Sept. 1 and 2 while deer, wild turkey, and pheasant seasons begin later—experts recommend staying on trails, leashing dogs, and wearing bright clothing for safety. - ➤ In Middlesex County real estate for August, the median home list price dropped to $899,000—a 4.9% decrease from the previous month’s $944,950—as new listings rose by 3.9% to 1,180 and homes spent a median of 40 days on the market. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ Atlantic Management Corp. of Framingham is planning to bring a Costco wholesale store to Southborough—seeking a zoning change for a long-vacant parcel at 21 Coslin Drive. Town leaders noted that residents will vote on the request at a special Town Meeting on Oct. 27, and a Costco spokesperson said the company will share details when ready. MetroWest Daily News

- ➤ Owen Swanbon, a college men’s ice hockey goalie, competed in the Boston Triathlon this summer and finished 20th in the male 20-24 group with a 750-meter swim, a 12.4-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.
