COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Framingham Veterans Council will place a wreath on Captain Edward Peters’s grave on or about November 4 to honor his service during D-Day as a paratrooper. Captain Peters, born in Framingham and killed on June 6, 1944, fought enemy machine gun nests and earned multiple military honors—recognized by the community for his bravery.  Framingham Source

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi announced today that its private label goods in 23 Massachusetts stores will soon feature the Aldi logo following customer feedback — new packaging will roll out gradually and items like Red Bag Chicken will get shopper nicknames while some familiar brands remain updated.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Marylou’s Coffee announced that its new Framingham cafe will open Friday, Oct. 3 at 543 Old Connecticut Path—located inside a renovated Seasons convenience store and Shell gas station—and will serve coffee from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.  MetroWest Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Town of Framingham flag that flew at the State House was returned on Sept. 26 and is now on display at the Framingham History Center. Mayor Charlie Sisitsky said the gift preserves the community’s heritage — ensuring future generations understand its past.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative Jack Patrick Lewis nominated Ivete Montanez—a preschool assistant teacher at BLOCKS Program—for the 2025 Latino Excellence on the Hill award during Hispanic Heritage Month in September. Montanez has spent over 21 years in early childhood education and works to support bilingual programs and community engagement in our schools.  Framingham Source
  • Columbus Day falls on Monday, October 13 and government offices, courts, schools and banks will close while stores and other services stay open. The holiday is controversial since many states now celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day—Massachusetts does not officially recognize it, though some local municipalities have renamed the celebration.  MetroWest Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Linda Murphy from Framingham wrote her own witty obituary before dying on September 21 after a three-year battle with Bulbar ALS — she used humor to cope with the illness and urged kindness and donations to ALS research instead of sending flowers.   • The Daily News Girls High School Athlete of the Week poll for Sept. 23-29 features 23 candidates, including local players noted for hat tricks, assists and game-winning goals.
