CULTURE NEWS

  • Trevor Noah will perform live at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 as part of his five-city U.S. tour early next year. Each show will begin at 8 p.m. and run about one and a half hours—tickets are available via Ticketmaster.  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On October 9, MassBay Community College hosted the Macy May Foundation’s Traveling Free Thrift Boutique (providing students with free interview clothing and shoes) at the Wellesley Hills campus, marking its second visit after a successful event at the Framingham campus in May.  Framingham Source
  • On Oct. 7, the Education Department and Henry Whittemore Library hosted a discussion on free expression and book bans at the McCarthy Forum where lawmakers and educators explained that new bills will stop censorship in schools and libraries. Lawmakers noted that proposals like HB 3598 will protect the right to read and help librarians choose books for students — they stressed that clear policies defend free speech.  The Gatepost

  • Officials learned the audit results on the local government's DEI initiatives, previewed the District 4 City Council election, and presented coverage from the first Framingham Fest—events that highlight local civic affairs.  The Frame
  • Brockton fire officials warned residents that smoke alarms older than 10 years or without a date must be replaced to ensure they work correctly.   • Newsweek released its America's Best Nursing Homes 2026 ranking that named over 30 Massachusetts facilities out of more than 15,000 nationwide based on performance data, peer recommendations, and resident satisfaction.
