CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Framingham will host an Indigenous Peoples Day event at Downtown Common (historic Indigenous burial ground) on Monday, Oct. 13 starting at noon with formal proclamation, student reflections and a keynote address beginning at 12:30 p.m. Residents may bring nonperishable food items to donate as the free event celebrates local Indigenous heritage. - ➤ The Mazmanian Gallery hosted an opening reception for the multimedia exhibition 'Shift - Space - Return' on Oct. 6 and is showing works by five local artists chosen through an open call to explore language in art (curated by faculty, Gallery director Ellie Krakow, and student interns). - ➤ Massachusetts gas prices declined for the second straight week as regular fuel averaged $2.98 per gallon on Monday—down from $3.01 last week while remaining about 4.6% lower than the national average of $3.12. MetroWest Daily News

- ➤ The Student Government Association swore in three new senators—Kait Eller, Yisel Bedoya, and Caleb Conners—at its Oct. 7 meeting; Eller was elected on Sept. 26 while Conners and Bedoya were appointed after missing election acceptance. The meeting also approved removing the SGA Code of Conduct and changing the Events Committee vice chair, and a Senate meeting on Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. will discuss further adjustments. The Gatepost
- ➤ Framingham State changed its bookstore vendor on July 1 — eCampus now manages online course material orders and UGS supplies campus merchandise; students must order materials online for pickup. The new five-year contract replaces Follett and may free up space on campus for other uses in the future. The Gatepost
- ➤ Ryan Hacker began his role as Associate Vice President for Facilities and Capital Projects at Framingham State after a long career in the public sector that included work at UMass Chan Medical School and the Worcester school district. He said his priorities include fixing campus issues like roof leaks and guiding upcoming projects—such as the Linsley Hall conversion under the Campus Master Plan—for faculty, student and community input. - ➤ The University has reduced the minimum credit requirement for undergraduates from 32 to 30, effective immediately as announced by the provost on Oct. 1 and confirmed by the registrar on Oct. 8—President Niemi approved the change, which will be applied for Spring 2026 advising. The Gatepost
- ➤ At the Heineman Ecumenical Center on Oct.6, published author and Framingham State professor Jennifer De Leon held a discussion about her new book White Space—she explained how her Guatemalan roots and a decade of writing shaped the essays into a personal collection while also revealing she is working on three young adult novels. - ➤ On a frosty morning, several babies were born at MetroWest Medical Center’s Framingham Union Hospital where nurses in the Beautiful Beginnings Maternity Unit celebrated the new arrivals — each child brings hope and marks the start of a joyful autumn. - ➤ Massachusetts influencer Brianna 'Chickenfry' LaPaglia told People Magazine that her heartbreak from a public breakup with country singer Zach Bryan motivated her to join Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, which aired October 9th—she said her difficult experience pushed her to fight back rather than give up. - ➤ Banana Ball, a new style of baseball with choreographed dances and unique uniforms, will be held at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 28 and 29, 2026—fans can join the ticket lottery until Oct. 31, 2025 to try to buy tickets. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ On Oct 4, the Framingham State Rams beat Fitchburg State 22 to 12 to improve their conference record to 4 to 0 and overall record to 4 to 1. Freshman Michael Marcucella earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week—throwing for 169 yards and two touchdowns—as the Rams prepare for their Homecoming game against Westfield State on Oct 18. The Gatepost
- ➤ Framingham State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Keene State Invitational on Oct. 4, with the men placing 22nd of 26 teams and the women 18th of 26. They will travel to Westfield State University to compete in the James Earley Invitational today, and head coach Mark Johnson praised the teams’ strong effort (noting impressive personal records). - ➤ Kate Buban, a junior at Framingham State, broke the all-time 6K cross country record twice this season—she set a record with a time of 23:34.63 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 13th and then improved it to 23:29.4 at the Keene State College Invitational on Oct. 4th. The Gatepost
