COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Big Y Foods is inviting customers to share their favorite memories for its 90th anniversary celebration in 2026—selected storytellers will receive a $90 gift card. Story submissions, which can include photos and videos, are open online or by mail until Nov. 6.  MetroWest Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • L.L.Bean announced its new 20,000-square-foot Framingham store at Fresh Market Plaza on Route 9 will open on Nov. 7 and host a grand opening with a ribbon-cutting, giveaways, and appearances by former Red Sox player Jonny Gomes. The store will operate 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (LL.Bean will also donate $10,000 to MetroWest YMCA).  MetroWest Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Oct. 7, SGA held a club representative meeting and Senate meeting where President César Matos used an interactive survey to gather feedback on campus safety and event catering from Sodexo. The Senate approved forming a temporary safety and security committee — with Senator Nathan Piette as chair and Senator Jobe Murphy as vice chair — to review campus issues, with its work ending on Nov. 21.  The Gatepost
  • Hemenway Laboratories has been renamed Professor Thomas and Joan Eames Laboratories to honor a $2.22 million endowment for the College of STEM—this change was announced by President Nancy Niemi and approved on Sept 18 with funds starting at $100,000 in Fiscal Year 2027 to support students and faculty. The donation by Professor Eames and his wife will help provide state-of-the-art resources and financial aid to students.  The Gatepost
  • The University used a $1.3 million SUCCESS grant to expand the Center for Academic Success and Achievement by moving into the Peirce Annex and hiring four new success coaches while renovating five offices and a conference room—measures that also funded professional coaching training for 15 staff to better support students. These changes took place over the summer and reflect the start of a multi-year effort to improve academic services.  The Gatepost

  • The Frame: Framingham report showed education leaders analyzing the latest MCAS scores and a preview of the District 8 City Council race as local candidates took part in a debate forum for Election Day—other segments detailed a one-alarm house fire displacing four residents, a Carol Getchell Trail Grant announcement, and upcoming community events.  The Frame

HEALTH NEWS

  • MetroWest Medical Center urges residents to get annual mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to catch any changes early. Dr. Neha Modi explained that modern screenings use very low doses of radiation and only brief discomfort while tracking subtle differences in breast tissue.  Framingham Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 11, the Framingham State Rams beat the Anna Maria Amcats 3 to 2 and moved their record to 5 to 7 to 1 with a 2 to 3 conference mark—freshman Shawn Amposah scored his first collegiate goal. The Rams will host Westfield State—playing during Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 18.  The Gatepost
  • The Framingham State Rams beat the MCLA Trailblazers 3-2 on Oct.15, handing the Trailblazers their first conference loss as the Rams’ record improved to 13-6 overall & 4-1 in conference. They are tied for second in the MASCAC standings & will travel to Wheaton College on Oct.18 for an out-of-conference match.  The Gatepost
  • On Oct. 11, the Framingham State Rams women's soccer team defeated the Anna Maria Amcats 2-0 in a conference match and raised their record to 3-2—both goals came from freshmen. The team will travel for a conference matchup at Westfield State University on Oct. 18.  The Gatepost
  • Week 7 of high school football features 20 games across MetroWest and Greater Milford. Two games were played Thursday, a full slate is underway today with matchups such as Ashland at Holliston at 6 p.m., and Saturday matinee games will occur later—teams are fighting for playoff spots.  MetroWest Daily News
