- ➤ The City of Framingham will host its 34th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Block Party on December 5 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Building Plaza and Union Avenue where residents will enjoy music, storytime, free books, and treats to mark the start of the holiday season. - ➤ Framingham leaders said during a meeting at the main library on November 10 that the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail extension will begin its first phase in 2029, using 3.2 miles of a former CSX railroad corridor to link Sudbury to Framingham plus nearby trails. Planners explained the two-part project will start with a route from the border between Framingham and Sudbury to Frost Street and advised residents not to use the unfinished trail due to safety hazards. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Before 1 a.m. on November 12, Framingham Fire responded to a dormitory fire at Corrinne Towers at Framingham State University where the sprinkler system contained the blaze on the sixth floor — university police and firefighters kept the situation controlled, with only one student displaced and no injuries as investigators look into an accidental cause. - ➤ The City of Framingham is inviting local photographers to submit original works for a juried photography exhibition as part of its 325th anniversary celebration — the call is open to those who live, work, or study in the city. Submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30 and must be framed and ready for hanging — accepted works will be notified the week of Dec. 14 with final deliveries due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 5. - ➤ Massachusetts gas prices rose for the second week, reaching an average of $2.95 per gallon on Monday, up from $2.91 last week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration—state prices remain about 3.3% below the national average of $3.06. MetroWest Daily News
