COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Dec 2, the Framingham Garden Club brought wreaths to firefighters at the Fire Dept. headquarters to show support. The club will hold its Garden Club Greens Sale at the Cushing Park Maintenance Building on Dec 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec 6 from 10 a.m. to noon — proceeds will fund high school scholarships.  MetroWest Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yankee Candle will close about 20 stores across North America in January 2026, including several in Massachusetts, as parent company Newell Brands plans to lay off over 900 workers this December—aiming to save up to $130 million annually while shifting to more productive retail channels. Customers can still shop at nearby locations or online as the company restructures its operations.  MetroWest Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Massachusetts residents who shovel snow should know that pushing it onto the street is illegal in many towns; local ordinances in cities like Salem enforce fines + these rules help prevent dangerous ice ruts and blocked sidewalks.  MetroWest Daily News
  • MassDOT announced its annual Name-A-Snowplow contest inviting elementary and middle school classrooms to submit names for 12 snowplows for the upcoming winter season (entries are due by 5 p.m. on Dec. 5). Winners will receive a $100 gift card and have their chosen name placed on a plow permanently.  MetroWest Daily News
  • Today, the Massachusetts Lottery announced it will stop selling Lucky for Life tickets in early 2026 and replace the game with Millionaire for Life, which costs $5 per ticket and offers a $1 million annual prize — the Lottery Commission voted unanimously and the first drawing is scheduled for Feb. 22.  MetroWest Daily News
