- ➤ Framingham Council on Aging is accepting nominations for its sixth annual Senior Heroes Awards to honor residents age 60 and older for volunteer work in culture, social development, health, and public service — nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Feb. 9, 2026. MetroWest Daily News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Massachusetts dropped to $2.88 per gallon on Monday, down from $2.92 the previous week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Prices in the state are about 1.5% higher than the national average of $2.84. MetroWest Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Sisitsky has ordered free parking on Concord, Hollis, and Union until January 2 to support holiday shopping in downtown Framingham. This is his third year of holiday parking relief (motorists must still follow posted parking rules). City of Framingham
- ➤ MBTA officials said weekend ridership nearly matches pre-pandemic levels, while weekday figures remain lower. The board approved updated safety and accessibility measures on Dec. 18 and the transit system is preparing for major events in 2026. MetroWest Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Dec. 19 the FDA expanded its recall of frozen shrimp likely contaminated with Cesium-137 — Market 32 shrimp sold at Price Chopper in Massachusetts are included. Consumers with recalled packages should discard them and seek medical advice if concerned. MetroWest Daily News
- ➤ Health officials report more flu cases in Massachusetts this season, noting an early surge compared to last year. They urge residents (including children and older adults) to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene during the holiday season. MetroWest Daily News
